Situations that warrant a tooth extraction can include:

• Teeth that are causing damage to other teeth
• Wisdom Teeth
• A tooth that is too damaged or decayed to restore

When wisdom teeth begin to erupt, they can cause problems as they collide with other teeth. This can lead to tooth pain and damage.

Baby teeth mature and normally fall out when they are ready. In some cases, the baby teeth obstruct a new tooth from coming in. When this happens, the new teeth may shift out of alignment.

Whether by injury or disease, teeth can become damaged. In many instances, we can save the tooth, but if it is causing severe pain, we may decide to remove the tooth.

Oral Care Tips After a Tooth Has Been Pulled

1. Drink and eat soft foods like smoothies, pudding, mashed potatoes and broth.
2. Avoid hard foods.
3. Avoid using a straw to prevent dry socket.
4. Rinse your mouth periodically with warm salt water.
5. Brush your teeth carefully near the wound.
